Cowes Waterfront project in partnership with sailing team
A three year partnership announced recently will see Cowes Waterfront – a regeneration scheme by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), the Isle of Wight Economic Partnership and the Isle of Wight Council – becoming a global partner to Ellen MacArthur’s Offshore Challenges Sailing Team.
The new partnership will focus on jointly promoting the Isle of Wight to support the Cowes Waterfront initiative and in particular to reinforce the international reputation of Cowes Waterfront and the Medina Valley as a location for business, leisure and life.
Three of the professional sailors from the Offshore Challenges Sailing Team – Ellen MacArthur MBE, Nick Moloney and Sam Davies – will become ambassadors for the project wherever they are competing in the world, their role being to raise the profile of the island as an excellent business location for the composites and specialist marine sectors as well as making Cowes a centre for sailing, racing and technology.
A further announcement will be made later this month regarding a specific promotional racing project that has been agreed as part of the partnership.
Cowes Waterfront – formerly referred to as Project Cowes – was launched by SEEDA Development Projects Director, Peter Cusdin, at the International Sailing and Cowes Waterfront Exhibition in the town on 2 August.
