A £16.5m regeneration project of the Crouch Hill Park in Islington, North London has reached the final stages.

The project transformed the formerly neglected metropolitan open land in the north of the borough into a vibrant green space.

The redevelopment includes adventure play projects and a wide range of activities for children and young adults with a focus on health and fitness.

Improvements to the area include a re-landscaped park and a multi-use games area, which will both open in December.

Ashmount Primary School – currently based in Archway - is also being relocated to the Crouch Hill site.

The school is set to be the first carbon neutral school in the country and was awarded a BREEAM Outstanding rating in 2011 in recognition of its sustainable design, the low impact materials being used on site and its sophisticated energy systems.

Willmott Dixon was contracted by Islington Council to carry out the redevelopment of Crouch Hill.

Leader of Islington Council, Councillor Catherine West, said: "My memories of the Crouch Hill site are of a neglected park area that most local residents didn't want to use, as it was blighted by graffiti and fly-tipping.

"Though there are still a few months to go before the development is complete, it's clear how impressive the final transformation will be."
