DCMS runs Planning for Tourism seminars
A year after the publication of The Good Practice Guide on Planning for Tourism which replaced PPG 21 (Tourism); the DCMS is working with the Government Offices in the Regions to run seminars to promote the guidance to local planners.
ISPAL is aware already of cases won on appeal because local authorities did not have regard to this guidance, so it is important that tourism officers attend these seminars if they can.
DCMS is also looking for relevant case studies to be used in break out sessions.
The three dates identified so far are:
14th May – Cambridge 6th June – London
16th July – Gateshead
If you would like to attend, this is an opportunity for you to share your experience of the relationship between the planning system and tourism, what works, what does not and what could be improved, and your suggestions as to how this can be achieved – especially as everyone prepares to maximise the London 2012 opportunities.
