Database of sports facilities launched
A government-backed online database of sport and fitness facilities was launched yesterday (11 July) in the latest attempt to encourage physical activity.
Jointly funded by Sport England and the Big Lottery Fund, Active Places is a free service which will help people locate sports and fitness facilities across England.
Culture and sport secretary, Tessa Jowell and chief executive of Sport England, Roger Draper, launched the first phase of the new service, which details more than 10,000 facilities, at the London Youth Games.
More facilities will be added to the database over the next year.
Following the launch, the interactive multi-media will be showcased at shopping centres and schools around the country. Details: www.activeplaces.com
