DLL to school GCSE students with ‘Revisercise’

David Lloyd Leisure (DLL) is hoping to help teens sail through their GCSE exams this summer with the aid of some sweaty revision sessions.

The family-oriented health club chain announced this week the launch of its new ‘Revisercise’ workout routine, designed to help GCSE students break the monotony of exam revision by harnessing the power of exercise.

The PT workout simultaneously combines familiar exercise routines with questions on specific school subjects to help teenagers boost their exam performance. The programme is being debuted in David Lloyd’s Epsom Club this half term week, with students also encouraged to try it at home using online guide.

Targeted at GCSE students, the 20-minute workout programmes are inspired by scientific research that suggests regular exercise is beneficial to revision and exam preparation, owing to its ability to boost brainpower and aid retention of knowledge. Activities can range from testing mental arithmetic on the treadmill, priming science knowledge while using the kettlebells or even exploring Cold War trivia in the sparring ring.

The initiative dovetails with recent reports such as ukactive’s Blueprint for an Active Britain and Public Health England’s What Works in Schools and Colleges to Increase Physical Activity? in calling for physical activity to play a far more prominent role in the school day. Currently, only 21 per cent of boys and 16 per cent of girls aged 5-15 years old meet the recommended guidelines of at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity every day – with participation figures continuing to fall.

“We understand that the summer revision period is traditionally a very dull and stressful time of year for students,” said DLL commercial director Russell Barnes.

“Revisercise will not only get teenagers out of their bedrooms this half term but also offers a fun, healthy and innovative way to improve exam performance.”
