Adventure, medieval and fantasy zones all unveiled for £2bn Paramount London development

London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH) has released new images and details for the £2bn (US$3bn, €2.8bn) Paramount London theme park and resort development, unveiling a number of themed zones with rides and attractions.

The new images, unveiled as part of a public consultation in Kent, show Adventure Isle – a jungle-themed zone which includes a white water rapids ride; Myth & Legends Castle – a medieval castle; Paramount Port Bay – a fantasy historical port; and Port Plaza – an area connected to both the castle and port following the same historical theme. Other zones planned for the park include Land of Legends, Cartoon Circus, the Star Trek-themed Starfleet Command, Action Square and Entertainment City.

In addition to 50 rides and attractions at Paramount London, the resort will include a 2,000-seat theatre, 11,000sq m (118,000sq ft) of exhibition space to showcase British inventions and brands, 15,000sq m (161,500sq ft) of retail space, a cinema, comedy venue and live entertainment. The mega resort has also detailed plans for the largest waterpark development in Europe, 5,000 hotel rooms and a creative space for businesses.

LRCH has already agreed exclusive rights to use Paramount’s IPs in the UK, including its giant film archive featuring such hits as Mission Impossible, The Italian Job and Titanic among others. The company has also agreed several other partnerships for the park, including a deal with the BBC for shows such as Dr Who and Sherlock while also signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aardman Animations, the producers behind works such as Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and Chicken Run. LRCH has also named the British Film Institute (BFI) as a cultural adviser to the entire project.

The heart of Paramount London is scheduled to open to the public in Q2 2020, with additional rides and attractions scheduled to come in the following years. LRCH estimates that the project will generate 27,000 jobs for the area.

The project was designated by the UK government as ‘Nationally Significant’ in May 2014. Ahead of submitting for planning permission in Q4 2016, LRCH is currently planning a fourth round of consultations with local residents and interest groups.
