Detailed Blackpool plans submitted
Muse Developments has submitted detailed proposals for the first phase of the £220m Central Business District (Talbot Gateway) Gateway scheme in Blackpool.
The Manchester-based developer is working with Blackpool Council to deliver the project, which is to include hotels, restaurants and cafés when complete, along with 85,000sq m (914,932sq ft) of office and business space.
Outline planning consent for the entire development was approved by councillors in March 2010, although the proposals were dealt a blow after it was revealed that the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) would not be contributing any financial support.
The first phase of the project consists of two applications relating to the refurbishment of a car park; the new retail space; and the construction of an office building for public and private use.
Blackpool Council cabinet member for regeneration and urban development Gary Coleman said: "This area of Blackpool is in much need of regeneration and our focus is to create new jobs."
A third application is expected to be submitted in the coming weeks. It is hoped work will commence in early 2012.
