Details of new Royal Parks board revealed
London mayor Boris Johnson has announced the first details of a new board to oversee the management of the capital's Royal Parks, which is to comprise 12 individuals.
It follows a decision by the government to give Londoners an increased role in the operation of the parks, with the mayor to have responsibility for appointing the board.
Local councils will propose three members to represent London boroughs; two will be from the Royal Parks' senior management team; and one from the Royal Household.
Johnson also revealed "several members" of the current Royal Parks board, including chair Apurv Bagri, will remain in their roles in a bid to ensure stability going into 2012.
"It is right that the body responsible for [the Royal Parks'] strategic direction has stronger links to the democratically elected mayor of the city," he said.
"This means we can take advantage of their extensive experience as we seek to bolster how Londoners can get more involved in the running of these wonderful parks."
