Doncaster sports complex to open in December
The £32m Doncaster Lakeside Sports Complex will open to the public in late 2006.
The sports development – due for completion in December – will provide athletics facilities and a community football centre with external synthetic pitches.
It will also provide a new 15,000 seat home for Doncaster Rovers FC, Doncaster Lakers Rugby League FC and Doncaster Belles FC.
The stadium will feature five-a-side football pitches, a sports bar, a health and fitness centre, hospitality facilities, a martial arts centre and a teaching space for the local college.
Project management for the construction phase of the complex has been awarded to Drivers Jonas.
Mayor Martin Winter said: “I am sure the experienced team from Drivers Jonas will work well alongside Doncaster Council, the local communities and sports clubs to deliver a sports complex of an excellent standard with high-quality facilities to maximise sporting, leisure and educational opportunities across the borough.”
Steve Jepson, lead project manager of Drivers Jonas, added: “Doncaster Council has been working towards this for several years and it is hugely satisfying to see the project finally start on site.” Details: www.driversjonas.com
