ETOA: London tourism 'unaffected' by riots
Recent riots in London and other cities has not led to "any significant drop" in immediate inbound numbers, according to the European Tour Operators Association (ETOA).
The organisation said that its members had more than 38,000 people staying in London on 10 August, with just 330 cancellations for next week reported by lunchtime on 11 August. ETOA said the cancellation rate - at just 0.2 per cent - represented 660 missing bed-nights and was below the threshold of background cancellation.
An ETOA spokesperson said: "Some of the individual cancellations are now rebooking. London remains safe for tourists. And tourists understand that London remains safe." Meanwhile, London and Partners - the mayor's promotional agency - said: "The majority of London attractions have remained open and the capital has continued to host major events such as the Badminton World Championships."
A spokesperson for the mayor of London added: "It is important to note that recent incidents have occurred away from the capital's major visitor attractions, which continue to operate as normal and attract thousands of people from across the world."
