EU funding for Bridgend regeneration plans
Plans for a multi-million pound regeneration of Bridgend town centre have been given a boost after the Welsh Assembly Government confirmed more than £7.7m to help fund the scheme.
The funding has been secured from the Convergence European Regional Development and the Targeted Match Fund, which will complement local authority and Heritage Lottery Fund support. It is hoped the transformation of the town centre will increase commercial confidence in the area and improve pedestrian safety, while also boosting links to local facilities and services.
Welsh business and budget minister Jane Hutt said: "Our successful management of EU resources ensures vital schemes such as this can be delivered to bring lasting benefits to people, communities and businesses." David Sage, deputy leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, added: "We want to create an attractive, thriving town centre environment which preserves the historic past while building a modern future."
