Edinburgh and Stirling castles get Easter boost
Scotland's Edinburgh and Stirling castles have seen a boost in visitor numbers over Easter.
According to Historic Scotland, which runs the attractions, Edinburgh Castle welcomed 24,278 visitors over from Good Friday to Easter Monday - 4,000 more than last year - while Stirling Castle saw an increase of 900 visitors from 8,321 to 9,215.
The boost in numbers is thought to have been caused by Easter being in April this year rather than March, and hence received better weather.
Kari Coghill, acting head of visitor services and business development at Historic Scotland, said: "We had a superb Easter with lots of people taking advantage of the good weather to enjoy a visit to Edinburgh and Stirling castles.
"Despite the recession it all added up to a great start to the new season."
