Energy savings fund gym overhau
The Galleon Centre in Kilmarnock, Scotland has reopened its Excells fitness suite following a £100,000 refurbishment which saw the addition of 87 pieces of cardiovascular and resistance equipment from Life Fitness.
The overhaul was partly funded by £30,000 of energy savings made in 2007 through the use of motion sensor light switches and the installation of a combined heat and power unit to heat pool water.
David Carey, general manager for the centre also saved £6,229 in 2007 through reduced water consumption, and halved the centre’s waste output.
In addition to the fitness suite, The Galleon Centre also boasts a 25m, five-lane swimming pool, ice rink, bowling alley, two sports halls, squash courts, a health and solarium suite and two bars.
