Evian awards 86 White Flags to Irish facilities

Evian White Flags, which recognise standards of excellence in health and leisure sites, have been awarded to 86 Irish facilities.

The awards, which a joint development by the Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management (ILAM) Ireland and An Taisce launched in 2001, are modelled on the European Blue Flag for Beaches awards and also endorsed by Failte Ireland and the Irish Hotels Federation.

Presented by the chief executive of the Irish Sports Council, John Treacy, the awards are specifically aimed at sports halls, fitness studios, health suites, spas, gyms and swimming pools.

The minister for state at the department of health and children, Sean Power, said: “The Evian White Flag award has been crucial in improving standards in the industry. The awards are a clear sign for consumers that the facility employs trained and qualified staff who operate to the industry codes of practice.

“All members, customers and tourists can now expect the highest quality of facility, cleanliness, efficiency and accessibility with excellent standards of management and service.”
