FIA Code of Practice support for REPs
The Fitness Industry Association has said its members must ensure their employees are on the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) by August this year.
Point two of the FIA Code of Practice states that staff instructing and demonstrating exercise have received training appropriately aligned to the standard required by the REPs.
The Code goes on to stipulate that from 1 August 2004, compliance to this standard will require all gym staff involved with the instruction of exercise to be registered at the appropriate level to perform their role, with REPs.
Executive Director of the FIA, Nigel Wallace said: “The Code of Practice is something the FIA takes very seriously, so much so that in agreeing to comply to the standards each FIA member accepts that their facility may be subject to review by an external assessor.
“The FIA is totally committed to working towards excellence in all areas of the industry. This includes protecting those staff who work within the industry as well as members of the public who use the hundreds of health clubs and leisure centres across the country.”
REPs registrar, Cliff Collins, added: “The sustained backing of the FIA for the REPs has been key in its success and we are delighted that the FIA values the work we do so highly that registration with us is included in its Code of Practice.
“In return our team is fully briefed on how to help health club and leisure centre managers ensure their staff are registered as REPs members by the FIA’s August deadline.” Details: +44 (0)20 8686 6464 or www.exerciseregister.org 08 Jun 2004
