FIA’s Go London scheme gathers space
The Fitness Industry Association's (FIA) Go London project, launched in March this year, has given more than a thousand girls access to health club facilities – at David Lloyd Leisure, Virgin Active and Fitness First.
The scheme, targeted specifically at getting young girls more active, has also provided them with access to instructor expertise, allowing them to participate in non-traditional sporting activities and showing them how to develop new approaches to a healthier lifestyle.
Andrée Deane, chief executive of the FIA, said: “There is a massive drop-out rate among young girls doing sport around the age of 14.
"Go London was designed to be relevant and trendy and doesn’t involve the pressures usually associated with PE activities at school.”
Rob Beale, health and fitness manager at David Lloyd Leisure, added: “We have been thrilled to open our doors to the girls, inspiring them to get active and be healthy by offering access to our fantastic facilities and instructors.”
The Go campaign has been running outside London since 2006.
