Retro-inspired Maldivian resort features chilled-out wellness area with thatched treatment divans
The Small Maldives Island Co has opened Finolhu, a new eclectic Maldivian resort with a retro-inspired “wellness hub” with flavours of the 60s and 70s, complete with pastel-coloured beach divans.
Finholhu features 125 villas located in the UNESCO biosphere of Baa Atoll, and is the sister resort to the recently opened Amilla Fushi.
The Cove Club features a stripped-back wellness concept that includes massage, movement and sound therapy. It features 10 thatched, chandelier-lit treatment divans, each of which celebrates an iconic beauty of the 60s or 70s, as well as a fitness centre, movement pavilion and outdoor Palm Beach Gym.
The island’s natural environment inspired the fitness activities, including capoeira, paddle-boarding, ballet, kickboxing and a tailored exercise programme from Bodyism.
Wellness features include steam and sauna area, salon and a relaxation area overlooking the beach. The Cove Club features facials by QMS, body treatments by ila, manicures and pedicures by margaret dabbs, hair by Louise Galvin, barber by Gentlemen’s Tonic and Rockstar Bodywork by Pure Massage – including a unique 3-2-1 three-day programme.
Pure Massage’s 3-2-1 programme starts with three therapists working on your feet, shoulders, neck and scalp for fifteen minutes on the first day, then two therapists focusing the massage on legs and feet, arms and hands and extended work on the shoulders, neck and scalp on the second day, followed by a 75-minute full-body massage in a treatment pod on the third day.
The retro beach vibe continues in the resort’s five restaurants and its Cinema Retro, which screens classic movies and live international sports, and its Baa Baa Beach Club, which features a monthly Full Moon Tribal sandbar party and quarterly Finolhu Blhu events featuring performers and DJs.
The resort’s old-school tuck shop, Milk Bar, features items like smashed avocado and acai bowls, smoothies, juices and Bodyism Shakes.
