Firework display confirmed for London's New Year's Eve celebrations
For the first time since the Millennium, London will be hosting a New Year's Eve firework display.
The firework display will take place at midnight around the London Eye and is expected to attract around 60,000 people. It will also be covered by a live BBC broadcast.
Mayor Ken Livingstone has also confirmed a number of other plans for New Year's Eve in the capital as part of an ongoing drive to promote London's attractions.
The centre of the promotional drive is the Visit London website, which currently has over 15,000 ideas for enjoying London throughout the festive season. There are also details of the special New Year's Day Parade and a range of food, entertainment and accommodation deals on offer.
Ken Livingstone said: "London is always a wonderful place to spend New Year. In addition, there are thousands of things to do, right across the capital, throughout the festive period and into New Year's Day. The aim is to underline London's status as one of the most exciting places to go on New Year's Eve - and throughout the year. The success of this year's celebrations will help kick start 2004 for Londoners and visitors alike, and set a precendent that I would like to see grow in future years." Details: www.visitlondon.com
