The LTA’s first City Tennis Club in Leeds opened on June 11 with a community sports day.
Receiving a £65,000 grant, the project is one of 13 across the country which will benefit from £4m in capital investment in grassroots tennis this year.
The City Tennis scheme has been established to try and broaden access to tennis in the UK’s inner cities – the Leeds club, which is located at the park site Cross Flatts in South Beeston, is one of 28 clubs.
The £440,000 project included the construction of three floodlit macadam courts, two multi-sport areas, a cricket practice area and five-a-side pitch.
Other funding came from the Football Foundation and the government’s single regeneration budget. DJ
