First REPs’ Council of Members meeting
The first meeting of the Register’s Council of Members was held after the morning session of the REPs’ convention.
The first five representatives met with Registrar Cliff Collins to discuss, among other things, Register member interests.
Gary Cole from Hampshire, Taff O’Donoghue from the Rhondda Valley, Paul Whapham from Swansea, Marlon Wasniewski of London, and Douglas Alexander from South Lanarkshire will act as a mouthpiece for REPs’ and will also serve on the SkillsActive Sport and Fitness Council and on the REPs’ Professional Practice Committee.
They will eventually be joined by seven other elected representatives covering the diversity of the industry and home nation views but women are especially needed to come forward to ensure the Council achieves an industry-representative gender balance (latest figures show that membership of the Register is split almost 50/50 between the sexes).
Members of the Council will be available for lobbying of general member interests and will publish recommendations, policy statements, position statements and issues of concern and take feedback through the REPs’ Journal.
