Gala acquires Liverpool casino for £14.5m
Bingo and casino operator Gala Group has acquired the Leo Casino in Liverpool for £14.5m.
The casino was opened in November 2002 by Amaury Taittinger and has 22 gaming tables, a 60-seat restaurant and two bars.
The acquisition is part of Gala’s strategy to expand its casino arm, after becoming the UK’s largest bingo operator last October following the £2.2bn takeover of Coral Eurobet.
Neil Goulden, Gala’s chief executive, said: “The acquisition demonstrates our confidence in gala’s Casino brand. Casinos like Leo rarely become available, so we are particularly pleased to be able to bring it into the Gala Group."
The acquisition increases the number of casinos operating under the Gala brand to 31.
The group also owns and operates 175 bingo clubs and 1,267 licensed betting offices.
Taittinger opened the Leo Casino in December 2002. Details: www.galagroup.co.uk
