Sometimes it is not what is included, but what is excluded that is notable.

That is why Gilchrist & Soames has introduced its new Zero Percent Collection, which, as the name suggests, boasts zero sulfates, zero parabens, zero phthalates, zero artificial colours and zero animal testing.

Kathie De Voe, president of Gilchrist & Soames, says, “We wanted hoteliers to get credit for offering a higher performance product to their guests. This played a part in the packaging design, which has strong retail influence and reflects the quality of the formulation.”

The Zero Percent Collection features Gilchrist & Soames’ proprietary Naturally Kind formulations, which contain no sulfates (SLS/SLES), DMDM hydantoin, parabens, phthalates, petrol-derived ingredients, mineral oil, urea, DEA, TEA or propylene glycol. They do feature food-grade, naturally derived USP glycerine; natural conditioning agents from honey and the Brassica plant; and soybean and cottonseed oil, instead of petrochemicals.

The surfactant products—shampoo, conditioning shampoo and shower gel—are sulfate-free, yet create rich and satisfying foam, giving guests the experience they expect from luxury bath and body amenities. As well, the body lotion contains Natural Moisturising Factors (NMF) of olive oil and vitamin E.

“Zero Percent is perfect for today’s hospitality market. Hoteliers are increasingly seeking products that are more skin-friendly, as well as are designed to be environmentally kind. With its Naturally Kind™ Formulations and highly recyclable PET bottles, Zero Percent is a perfect choice to meet those objectives,” says De Voe.

The five Zero Percent liquid products—Shampoo, Conditioner, Conditioning Shampoo, Body Wash and Body Lotion—are available in a 30 ml (1 fl oz) size and packaged in PET. The fresh, yet subtle fragrance features notes of cucumber, pomegranate, red currant, thyme and coriander, complementing the Zero Percent branding. The collection also features two gentle, vegetable-based, aloe soaps. The soaps, available in 17g (0.6 oz) and 28g (1 oz) sizes, are low-weight to reduce the amount of waste. De Voe says, “Although low in weight, we designed these bars to have a large surface area, which increases performance by having a larger area in contact with skin to produce more foam.”

To round out the collection, Zero Percent offers a full range of necessity products. Like all Gilchrist & Soames products, Zero Percent embraces cruelty-free development and manufacturing practices, ensuring that the products are never tested on animals, nor contain animal-derived ingredients.
