Glasgow 2014 promotes accessible tourism

Glasgow has outlined how tourists with disabilities will be accommodated at next year's Commonwealth Games.

Initiatives would include access statements at Glasgow hotels, giving visitors an accurate picture of accessibility, and training volunteers in disability equality and awareness.

Speaking at the 12 March Accessible Tourism conference in Edinburgh, Games minister Shona Robison said VisitScotland had been working with organisations like Capability Scotland and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People to highlight the potential of accessible tourism.

Each year tourists with access needs contribute £325m to Scotland's economy.

Robison said: "Next year we will expect to see a huge increase in visitors, thanks to world class events like the Commonwealth Games, and we must make sure that experience of coming to Glasgow is easy and enjoyable for everyone."
