Golden sporting opportunity for children
A new concept called the Gold Factor has been launched in Preston to encourage and identify the region's future sports stars.
Each Gold Factor event will provide large numbers of school children with an opportunity to take part in football, multiskills and sports activities during the school day, led by home grown coaches on the look out for potential new athletes.
Cllr Christine Thomas, cabinet member for community services, said: "We are thrilled to be involved in this initiative which encourages young people to develop their sporting potential.
"Preston has a strong sporting history and the Gold Factor aims to help identify stars for the future."
The concept was developed by Preston City Council in cooperation with The Football League Trust, Preston North End, University of Central Lancashire, Preston Sports Forum, Preston School Sport Partnership, Preston Soccer Centre and Sport England.
It is supported by NHS Central Lancashire, Cycling Projects and Preston Harriers.
Gold Factor has also been recognised as a Be Inspired legacy project for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
