Gondola plummets at Nevis Range mountain resort
The Nevis Range mountain resort in Scotland has temporarily closed owing to a cable car incident which injuried four visitors.
The gondola on Aonach Mor malfunctioned, plummeting 30ft to the ground. It is thought that high winds may have played a factor in the derailment.
The injured visitors were taken to Belford Hospital.
This is the resort’s second gondola derailment. Shortly after the resort opened in 1989, a carriage was derailed by a gust of wind and plunged 20ft to the ground. No-one was injured.
The gondolas transport visitors from 300–2,150ft on the north face of Aonach Mor – the eighth highest mountain in Britain. The journey takes approximately 12–15 minutes each way, and each gondola can accommodate up to six people. Details: www.nevisrange.co.uk
