Greenock Cut gets makeover
The Greenock Cut visitor centre has reopened following a £1m redevelopment.
The historic canal system of the site, a Scheduled Ancient Monument in Inverclyde, Scotland, has been restored and new access pathways and bridges have been repaired and upgraded to be more wheelchair friendly.
A new exhibition, called Greenock, Renfrethatm has been launched at the centre explaining how Scots engineer Robert Thom designed and built the aqueduct in the 1820's to provide power for the industries and mills in Greenock.
The project was funded by a multi-agency partnership which included the Clyde Muirshiel Park Authority (CMPA). The majority of funding came from a £685,000 grant from Heritage Lottery Fund.
Councillor Arthur, chair of the CMPA, said: "All partners must be thanked for their support, confidence and enthusiasm for this project.
"Our principal thanks go to Heritage Lottery Fund as the main financial supporter and to Inverclyde Council for embracing and delivering the project, on the ground, once the financial package had been completed".
