Guests ask for healthier minibar snacks
Hoteliers are being advised to fill their hotel room minibars with healthier treats after one-third of people surveyed felt they didn't offer enough.
A survey of 850 hotel guests, conducted by Hotels.com, showed the average spend on minibar treats was £15.44 – a £2 drop on 2007 figures. Almost 70 per cent of people also wanted to see healthier snacks in their fridge as well as beer, low calorie drinks and chocolate bars. In a cash-conscious climate, more Britons feel minibars are too expensive and one in ten admitted to replacing used items in the fridge with cheaper alternatives from a local store and two-thirds said they bring treats from outside the hotel.
Alison Couper, spokesperson for Hotels.com, said: “British travellers are clearly unable to resist the temptations of the hotel minibar; however, our research shows they are becoming incredibly savvy in terms of how they spend their holiday money.”
