Gymnastics centre opens in Alfreton
A new gymnastics facility has opened its doors at Alfreton Leisure Centre in Derbyshire.
The facility has been fitted with £76,000 of equipment including men and women's apparatus, a full length tumble track and a pit facility. Amber Valley Borough Council (AVBC) cabinet support member for wellbeing, Chris Short, said: "We hope that this new gymnastics centre will inspire even more people to get involved in the sport."
Funding for the facility was provided by AVBC and the Sport England Community Investment Fund. A number of other organisations were also involved in the project, including leisure centre operator DC Leisure, British Gymnastics and Derbyshire Sport. Amber Valley Gymnastics Club, a Gym Mark accredited club, will use the centre as its main base, which will offer training for gymnasts as well as coaching and leadership courses.
