HLF grant for Preston parks
Avenham and Miller Parks in Preston are to undergo a £4.9m renovation following a £2.712m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The work will include a new pavilion, designed by architect Ian McChesney, incorporating a café, exhibition and workshop space and an outdoor performance area.
Preston City Council is providing £400,000 for the work, the AvenCentral Regeneration Partnership is investing £850,000 and Lancashire County Council is providing £170,000.
Lighting and signage will also be improved and historic features such as the Swiss Chalet and Belevedere will be refurbished.
Alan Woods of the Friends of Avenham and Miller Parks said: “The restoration of the park and construction of the new pavilion will attract people back into this historic park and ensure that the improvements are sustained.”
