Hilton Worldwide to launch chef academy
Hotel operator Hilton Worldwide has announced plans to launch a new Chef Apprenticeship Academy in partnership with Westminster Kingsway College next month.
Up to 20 apprentices will be given the opportunity to embark on the 12-month programme, which is to include college-based courses and on-the-job training at properties including London's Galvin at Windows. Each of the apprentices will be fully-funded - including tuition fees and travel expenses - and will also receive a salary as part of Hilton's new programme, which involves 15 participating UK hotels.
Applications for the Chef Apprenticeship Academy will be considered until the end of September, before the programme starts "immediately afterwards". Candidates will be working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Professional Cookery, with an option to progress to Level 3. Ben Bengougam, vice president, human resources, Europe, at Hilton Worldwide, said: "As many people consider their future options, we're offering the chance to start on what can be an immensely rewarding career, by learning from some of the best chefs in the business.
"The Chef Apprenticeship Academy is aimed at nurturing and developing a new generation of chefs, with each participant having the prospect of a full-time commis chef role on completion of the programme."
