History on the hoof
A travelling exhibition supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and showing 12,000 years of Lake District human history and how the iconic landscape developed has opened in Workington, Cumbria.
On a county-wide tour, Unlocking the past, understanding the present is on show at the town's library. Lake District National Park (LDNP) archaeology and heritage advisor, Eleanor Kingston said: The exhibition runs until 26 April and will hopefully attract a lot of interest."
Visitors will also be able to find out about the Lake District Historic Environment Record, a database of all known important sites and finds in the national park. The 2,292sq km (885sq m) of the LDNP boasts 275 scheduled monuments, 1,740 listed buildings and structures and 22 conservation areas. Image copyright Michael Turner
