Hole found in theatre group’s finances
Auditors at the English Touring Theatre (ETT) have discovered problems with the group’s finances.
Jeremy Newton, chair of the ETT, said: “Our financial position is not what we had been led to believe. Investigations are on-going but the circumstances are such that it will take some time to reveal the true extent of our liabilities.
“At the moment neither the precise nature nor the cause of the problem are clear, but a member of staff has resigned and the Company is working closely with the relevant authorities.”
He added that the theatre was liaising with Arts Council England to put together a plan for meeting all its obligations, its priorities being to pay all outstanding creditors, to maintain Romeo and Julietuntil the end of its tour, to produce the world premiere of Honeymoon Suite early next year and to be back on the road in the Autumn of 2004.
