Hornby opens up transport model archive
Hornby, the model maker renowned for its miniature railway sets, has opened up its archive in Margate, Kent, in a bid to help attract more visitors to the area.
According to the BBC, the visitor centre will feature trains and layouts that date back to the 1920. Other toys and models from manufacturers acquired by the company - such as Scalextric, Airfix and Corgi, are also on show. Located on the Westwood industrial estate, Hornby's archive will be restricted to people who have applied for tickets and will also include latest products yet to go into full production.
Operations director Nick Cole told the BBC: "We are trying to do this as part of promoting Thanet as a visitor destination, to encourage people to maybe stay overnight and visit other places of interest, such as the Turner Centre, Quex Park and the Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Museum at Manston."
