IFI launched at West Craven Sports Centre
Pendle Leisure Trust has launched the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) at West Craven Sports Centre in Barnoldswick.
The launch last month follows a £60,000 revamp of the centre to make it more accessible to disabled customers – including introducing specialist equipment, lowering the reception desk, training staff and introducing signage in contrasting colours.
A new part-time position has also been created to act as a liaison between the leisure centre and its disabled customers.
The refurbishment of the centre was funded by the IFI, West Craven Together and the Borough of Pendle.
“We are delighted to have revamped our sports centre with the help of our funding partners,” said Pendle Leisure Trust’s chief executive, Phil Storey.
“We hope that, in the future, more and more public facilities will invest in these changes and what is currently viewed as exceptional will become the norm.”
The IFI launch was attended by blind athlete Steve Cunningham, founder member and captain of the England Blind Football Team.
West Craven Sports Centre is one of 150 IFI sites nationwide.
