IFI shortlisted for Lottery award
The Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) has been shortlisted for the National Lottery Awards as best health-based project.
IFI was selected alongside nine other projects in the health category. The other schemes shortlisted include the Pedal Power scheme, set up to help promote health amongst children and adults with learning difficulties; and Exercise for All, which assists people recovering from major illness to manage their health and improve their lifestyle.
Sue Catton, national director of IFI, said: “As a nation we must become more physically active, yet the opportunities that many of us take for granted to achieve this are not always accessible for disabled people.
“The IFI has made huge strides to address this in the fitness industry, stimulating a change in attitude, facility design and ultimately participation levels amongst disabled people.Funded by Sport England, IFI aims to create accessible fitness facilities throughout the country and open up opportunities for inclusive physical activity participation.
Launched in 2001, the scheme has been used to create nearly 200 inclusive fitness facilities across England, designed to meet the needs of both disabled and non-disabled people. Details: http://www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards/category/10
