ILAM calls for entries to waterway awards
The Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management (ILAM) is calling for businesses with recreation or tourism projects centered around Britain’s inland waterways to enter the 2007 Waterways Renaissance Awards.
Organised by The Waterways Trust and the British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA), the awards, established five years ago, recognise best practice in sustainable waterway development and regeneration.
ILAM is sponsoring the recreation and tourism category for 2007.
“We are very pleased to be involved with the Waterways Renaissance Awards,” said Ian Kendall, ILAM president.
“There are many excellent recreation and tourism related projects across the UK which enhance people’s enjoyment of the waterways and this is an ideal opportunity to recognise these efforts.”
The closing date for entries is 20 October 2006. The awards will be presented at a dinner hosted by tv presenter and Waterways Trust vice-president, John Craven in March 2007.
"The 'Waterways Renaissance' owes much of its success to partnership,” said Craven.
“It is about thousands of people from all walks of life working together to deliver change, whether they are businesses or government agencies, community groups or individuals. Together, these people and organisations have given our waterways a new lease of life - something to be proud of."
The recreation and tourism category was won by Rediscovering Evesham's River Heritage, Worcestershire in 2006. Details: http://firsthand.bura.org.uk or www.thewaterwatstrust.org.uk
