IMAX extends Chinese partnership with Lark
IMAX and Lark International Multimedia have signed two new agreements for the provision of five more digital cinema systems into multiplexes across China between 2013 and 2015.
The latest deals have grown Lark's total IMAX commitment to 12 venues and have increased the overall number of IMAX sites either open or planned in Greater China to more than 200.
It is thought the first of the five additional sites will open in 2013, with three due to launch in 2014 and the remaining venue currently scheduled to open in 2015.
Lark already operates four IMAX theatres across Hong Kong, Wuhan and Shenzhen, with a further three to open in 2012 and 2013 in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Chengdu.
"Since the opening of our first IMAX theatre in 2007, IMAX continues to differentiate our multiplexes from competitors," said Lark director and general manager Robert Vallone.
"We look forward to continuing to leverage the IMAX advantage by adding five additional theatres to our circuit."
IMAX China chief executive officer Jiande Chen added: "China is our fastest growing market and our theatres in China are among the highest-grossing IMAX theatres in the world."
