ISPAL to embrace cultural sector
The newly-formed Institute for Sport, Parks and Leisure (ISPAL) has reiterated its commitment to the support of cultural services.
The chair of the shadow board of ISPAL, Carole Hassan, said: "In order to maintain unity among the partners at the time, the word 'culture' was not used. However, we have now strengthened out position following the revised membership of the board."
The shadow board said that "it will present itself as an organisation wishing to embrace cultural activity" but recognised that professionals in leisure sectors such as tourism, libraries, museums and the arts might have other sources of support for professional development.
ISPAL board member Bev Smith added: "While we recognise the excellent services offered by some of the more specialist professional bodies, we believe we can assist by concentrating on those Continuous Professional Development aspects which have a wider application in the broad leisure sector."
