In the Pink campaign raises £1400 for Breast Cancer Care
Anglia Community Leisure has raised more than £1400 for Breast Cancer Care following a campaign at Mildenhall Swimming Pool run by a 14-year-old local schoolboy, Matt Hamill.
The In the Pink campaign saw staff at the pool wearing pink and selling cakes, organising raffles and getting sponsorship. With prizes and donations from many local businesses. A Pink Water Workout also raised around £300. The campaign highlight was a 10-mile Tow For Life lifesaving which was completed in relay by staff and the Bronze Medallion Group towing a person up and down the swimming pool.
The Tow started at 6.15am and the team hit the 10 mile target by 3.45pm that afternoon but carried on until they had towed 11 miles. To mark the end of the event, staff produced a pink swimming cap, donated by Zoggs, which had been stretched for Matt to climb inside.
Debbie Feltner, of Mildenhall Swimming Pool, said: "This has been one of the best campaigns we have ever run for charity and our thanks go out to staff, customers and businesses who have supported us. "This just goes to show what a great community spirit we have here in Mildenhall and we hope it has encouraged even more local people to come along to the pool and become a part of things. It's been hard work but well worth it.
"Matt has raised money for other charities in the past and when he asked us to help him raise money for breast cancer we were all keen to get on board. He's put in a lot of effort himself to organise the events and our staff have fully supported him."
