Irish arts minister launches Culture Night 2012 programme
Irish minister for arts, heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan has launched this year's programme for Culture Night - a nationwide project designed to increase access to the arts.
First held in 2006, the Culture Night initiative is based on similar cultural events throughout Europe called White Nights - where buildings are lit up for the evening of the event.
Culture Night 2012 will see cultural organisations across Ireland extend opening hours and remove entry charges, with 34 locations participating in this year's event.
Deenihan said: "Culture Night plays a critical role in terms of increasing and improving the public's access to culture and the arts.
"It is a night for people of all ages to sample and connect with the cultural delights in their area and remind them that these venues are open all year round, not only on Culture Night."
