Kenneth Ryan departs Marriott International after 15 years of leadership

Marriott International’s VP of global operations for spa, fitness and retail Kenneth Ryan has announced he is leaving his role
Ryan has dedicated 15 years of his career working for the global hospitality giant
Marriott has not yet announced who will succeed Ryan

Seasoned spa veteran Kenneth Ryan has announced he is leaving his role as Marriott International’s VP of global operations for spa, fitness and retail.

“After 15 incredible years with Marriott, I’m stepping into a new season," Ryan revealed. "The journey has been filled with growth, success and most importantly, amazing people – teams, partners and friends who made every moment memorable.

“As I pause to reflect and recharge, I’m reminded that change is not just inevitable; it’s essential. Here’s to the next chapter, with gratitude for the past and excitement for what’s ahead.”

With nearly 30 years of global experience in the wellness and hospitality sectors, Ryan’s career has been defined by his passion for hotel spa operations.

He began his journey with Marriott 17 years ago, later spending nine years at Accor-owned Fairmont Hotels & Resorts where he worked alongside well-known industry figure Anne McCall Wilson.

In 2011, Ryan returned to Marriott as senior director of global spa operations, overseeing the design and development of spa programs for over 131 multi-branded spas, which generated more than US$170 million (€162 million, £134 million) in annual revenue. By 2016, he had risen to VP of global operations for spa, fitness and retail, where he managed over 650 locations and drove revenues exceeding US$500 million (€475 million, £395 million) annually.

His leadership extended across Marriott’s luxury portfolio, including The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, W Hotels and JW Marriott, shaping wellness and retail strategies across the brand’s properties.

During the pandemic, Ryan emerged as a steadfast leader, guiding Marriott’s spa division through unprecedented challenges and becoming an active, trusted industry voice in times of upheaval.

Marriott has yet to announce Ryan’s successor, and Ryan himself has not revealed his next move.

A long-time contributor to Spa Business, Ryan has shared insights on everything from industry trends and strategic best practices to dedicated thought leadership opinion pieces. Read more here.
