Kent football scheme receives funding
Dover District Council (DDC) has received a £1m Football Foundation grant towards the construction of a new £1.7m football facility in Aylesham, Kent.
The project will see the creation of new grass pitches for rugby and football, a floodlit synthetic turf pitch, a multi-use games area and a new changing pavilion.
The funding was secured after DDC appointed consultants Capita Symonds to produce a feasibility study and grant funding applications for the project.
Derek Garrity, project manager for Aylesham and Snowdown Football Club, the club which will call the new facility home, said" “The £1m contribution from the Football Foundation and the Football Association will be matched funded by £700,000 from the Coalfield Regeneration Trust, Dover District Council and the Rugby Foundation.
"The £1.7 million project will bring sports for all to a former mining community who are currently using obsolete 50 years old facilities. It will bring a new age and new opportunity for a community that confidently looks forward to the future.”
Tom Pinnington, project manager for Capita Symonds, said: “Our team is very pleased to have helped secure the £1 million grant from the Football Foundation for this project. It is the maximum grant possible and a fantastic result for the club and the village.
"The scale of the award reflects the strength of this project and difference it will make to the local community. It will make a massive difference to genuinely deprived community which has had more than its fair share of knock backs over the years.”
