Kids get dancing in Luton
Active Luton, the trust which operates 11 sports and leisure facilities in Luton – including dual use facilities at Lea Manor Recreation Centre and Luton Regional Sports Centre – has invested money received from the Big Lottery’s Community Investment Fund in 32 ZigZag Machine Dance Platforms.
A programme of activities using the machines has been implemented as part of the ‘go’ initiative launched by the Fitness Industry Association (FIA) to improve links between fitness facilities and secondary schools to encourage teenage girls to take part in regular activity.
Ian Hobdell, health & fitness manager at Activo Luton, said: “The Community Investment funding was given in line with a number of targets, which includes engaging school children in exercise, and so we worked with our local school sport co-ordinators to allocate times for the children to get extra exercise throughout the week in addition to their PE lessons.
“These dance platforms are the latest dance craze to hit the teenage market and the kids love it as it’s so much fun! But it’s a great form of exercise too, and their co-ordination and agility skills get visibly better every time they play.”
