Lancaster’s waterfront and canal plans
Development Securities and Manchester-based developer CTP signed an agreement last month to develop the 16-acre waterfront site at Luneside East in Lancaster. The partnership will acquire a long leasehold interest of the waterfront following its compulsory acquisition by Lancaster City Council.
The redevelopment will include a hotel and around 3,000sq m (32,000sq ft) of retail and hospitality outlets, as well as new homes and offices.
English Partnerships, the Northwest Regional Development Agency and the European Regional Development Fund will finance the project. Work on site is scheduled to commence at the end of 2006.
Elsewhere in Lancashire, preferred developer Centros Miller plans to redevelop the 10-acre Canal Corridor North – dubbed Castle View – which will include leisure facilities, cafés and restaurants, as well as a new pedestrian route linking Lancaster Canal to the city centre.
