Launch of active partnership
The Get Active Alliance – a partnership of 16 representative organisations involved in physical activity and wellbeing promotion – has been set up to work on a collective ‘cradle to grave’ solution to the nation’s public health crisis.
It will focus on developing integrated fun, accessible and sociable activities designed for all levels of ability in a variety of environments.
Working with a range of statutory bodies, the goal is to get more people, more active, more often by providing a one-stop shop of organisations able to deliver on the Department of Health’s objectives across the country.
The Alliance has submitted a proposal to the Department of Health (DH) outlining how it can implement the Department’s new physical activity strategy.
The group has now issued an invitation to tender for the development of a detailed work plan.
“The Get Active Alliance is probably the most exciting initiative in the history of our sector. The government’s willingness to work with us is very heartening,” says Andrée Deane, CEO of the Fitness Industry Association.
