Leeds Bradford airport set for £28m revamp
Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) has announced plans for a two-storey extension of its terminal building as part of a £28m redevelopment project.
The scheme will form part of a five-year investment worth £70m designed to upgrade the airport's facilities by owner Bridgepoint, which acquired the airport in May 2007. Internal modifications will be carried out to the terminal building under the plans, including creating additional space to improve the layout and circulation in the concourse and at check-in.
A new, expanded security screening zone, a new departure lounge, and improvements to the domestic baggage reclaim area also form part of the proposals, as well as the redesign of airside immigration facilities. LBIA chief executive, John Parkin, said: "Our plans to improve the terminal building will transform LBIA. We will be creating modern, spacious and service-focused facilities designed to make the airport easy and convenient to use.
"The terminal proposals will also deliver new facilities which will integrate with the existing building sympathetically in scale and design." A public exhibition is currently being held to allow local residents and passengers to have their say on the plans.
