Leisure trust offers cardiac rehabilitation exercise programmes
Barnsley Premier Leisure is now delivering exercise classes for people with heart disease.
The leisure trust, based in South Yorkshire, is working in partnership with Barnsley Primary Care Trust Cardiac Rehabilitation Team, based at Barnsley Metrodome, which assesses the needs of people referred from local hospitals.
Peter Scott, Cardiac Rehab co-ordinator, said: “This partnership means sharing resources and expertise for the benefit of the community. It is also a cost-effective solution for the NHS. There are a variety of exercise programmes available which are tailor-made for the individual depending on their rehabilitation needs and ability.
“Once completed, cardiac rehabilitation clients can maintain and improve their fitness levels long-term by continuing formal exercise using the fitness suite alongside other Metrodome users or attending specific lower level sessions laid on for them by qualified Metrodome staff.
“The clients achieving a good standard of fitness can be inducted into the fitness suite just like any normal user, but with closer supervision, until they are confident with their programme.”
