Lewes Football Club put up for sale
Lewes Football Club (LFC) has been put up for sale after its board of directors revealed that it was struggling to deal with financial pressures.
The club sacked manager Steve King, and released a number of players, following its promotion to the Blue Square Premier league in the summer, but a review of the club's finances has led the board to seek a new owner. A statement issued by the club said: "Although prudent budgets were set for the season, there have been a number of circumstances that have affected the club.
"The exit from the FA Cup has added stress to the current financial situation. The current credit crunch has meant that some new funding options have not materialised. We now have to reassess the position as the club is under severe financial pressure." The board did, however, stress that any prospective buyers will have to commit to continue with the club's youth, under 18, reserve and women's teams.
