Life’s a beach on the Thames
Temporary planning permission has been sought from Lambeth Borough Council for the use of Hungerford Car Park and part of Queen’s Walk in London as a beach and outdoor cinema.
Similar in concept to the Paris Plage temporary beach, Backrow Productions would build the beach along Queens Walk, in the shadow of the London Eye.
Other attractions would include beach volleyball, yoga, nightly outdoor cinema shows on a 7 metre-high screen, a beach cafe and mobile barbeques.
Intended to attract locals and both domestic and international tourists, a decision on the planning application is expected in May.
However, plans for a similar urban beach in Potters Field, near Tower Bridge, stalled last year follow objections from local residents. Details: www.backrow.co.uk
