Lincoln council considers tourism cuts
The City of Lincoln Council (CLC) has revealed that it is considering the closure of the city's two tourist information centres as part of a strategic review designed to reduce costs.
No decision has yet been reached, with the council's executive due to discuss the proposals on 9 March in a bid to reduce its annual budget by £2.5m to help bridge a funding gap for the national travel concessionary scheme. CLC leader Darren Grice said: "Many of the council's business will come under review within the next 12 to 18 month period. One area that is currently under review is 'Tourism, Arts and Marketing'.
"The City Council appreciates the great value that Lincoln's residents and businesses place on tourism and understand the sensitivity of such proposals; as such we are in the process of consulting with both staff and stakeholders about these options before any decisions are made."
